Hello from the Co-op Board

My name is Jordan, and I serve as president of our Co-op board. We want to help members better understand how the Co-op operates—how the GM manages the store and how the board provides guidance and support. To do that, we’re working on clearer communication about the “why, what, and how” of the store.

We’ve recently updated our documentation, website, and internal systems. On the website, you’ll now find links to our History, Mission Statement, Store Principles, and Motto. You can also access our ByLaws, Board Policies, and meeting materials from both monthly board meetings and our annual member meeting.

You can explore these here: regentmarketcoop.com/about

Below, I’ve included our Mission, Principles, and Motto page for quick reference. As a board, we’ll be aiming to put these principles in practice and refer to them often. Let us know if you have questions or comments (e-mail the board)

Our Mission:

The Regent Market Co-op is dedicated to meeting the needs of shoppers from our local neighborhoods. Maintaining the charm and personal attention of a neighborhood grocery store, the Co-op is committed to operating on a sound financial basis so as to continue to be a reliable source of a wide selection of products for our members and other customers.

Our Principles

  • Recognize the importance of buying locally grown/produced products by continuing to support local growers and producers as proud members of the Dane Buy Local Initiative
  • Maintain and practice cooperative principles by continuing strong advisory and reciprocal relationships with other Madison-area grocery cooperatives
  • Encourage members to support the RMC by shopping weekly.
  • Encourage feedback and suggestions on how RMC can better serve its members and other customers
  • Remain connected to RMC members through multiple communication channels, including in-store notices, email newsletters, and updates to RMC web locations
  • Prioritize collaboration with proximal businesses, as the Regent and Allen business district is vital to the community and important to the success of the RMC
  • Aim to be a community hub by offering draft beer, hand-dipped ice cream, food truck collaborations, and yearly membership events, fostering familiarity and fondness for the store as a meeting space
  • Continue to improve our decision-making by making full use of our point-of-sale system (COPOS) for sales management, inventory management, and profitability management.

Our Motto:

Locally grown, Neighborhood owned
